Welcome to Journey Club 2014-2015! This is an exciting year of transition in Journey Club as we began using new curriculum that is specifically designed to help parents fulfill their God-given role in the spiritual formation of their children. Throughout Scripture, God makes it abundantly clear that parents bear the primary responsibility to introduce their children to God and to demonstrate how to have an intimate relationship with Him through Jesus. Listen to the great command in Deuteronomy 6:4-9 that speaks to this fact:
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them upon your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.
We tend to hear two things from parents who struggle to fulfill this God-given role. First, we hear that busy schedules make it very difficult to find time each day to disciple their children. Second, we hear that parents don’t feel equipped to fulfill the role God has called them to. This year in Journey Clubs, we are using simple tools that will allow you to disciple your children through a time of family worship in about 10 minutes a day. It may be that you already do 30 minutes of family worship time each day. If so, that’s great; keep doing what you’re doing! For many, however, starting with 10 minutes a day would be a great improvement from where they are currently as a family. The tools we will be using will allow you to work through the Bible with your family with the thread of the Gospel woven into each lesson. This year, we will journey through the book of Genesis. We pray that your family will come along with us for the journey of a lifetime: understanding that God made all of us for a relationship with Him and learning how to enter into and grow in this relationship!
